CANZUK: Why the Canadian Election is Important
CANZUK: The proposed alliance between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK based on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Free Trade requires a champion in high office. The snap Canadian election could be the producer of said champion.
Erin O' Toole, the Canadian Conservative Party Leader vows to make it a reality. And as far as I'm aware, he has just over taken Trudeau in the polls. There's still approx 20 days until ballot day. If O'Toole's Conservatives can hold the line and maintain their lead, we may witness the birth of a new superpower alliance in the not to distant future.
The idea of CANZUK is popular across all four nations. But, it has lacked a political drive. It's as if Political leaders are too cautious to mention it's potential. If O'Toole is elected, the vision will gain credibility and move faster.
The building blocks are already there, the UK and Canada can apply to join the CER. On Foreign Affairs we can share embassies and set up a diplomatic council and on Defence, we would set up a joint high command.
This would enable CANZUK to work independently of the USA, whilst still strongly allied to the USA. Both are very important stand points.
