Countering the Rise of China!

Is China going to take over the world?

The USA has a population of approximately 330 million with a GDP of $20 trillion. China has a population of approximately 1.4 billion and a GDP of $13 trillion. In the year 2000, China had a GDP of $1.2 trillion, 3.6% of the worlds economy. Now, China makes up for over 16% of the worlds economic output.

A massive shift in a very short period of time.

China could surpass superpower status and become a hyperpower within the next decade.

What can the west do to stay competitive and not become servant to China's power?

The answer already exists... NATO...

NATO has a combined GDP of $41 trillion (Half the worlds economic output) and a population of 932 million. A restructured confederate NATO is possibly the Wests only chance of standing up to the impending might of China.

The new NATO would have to be streamlined to be effective.

The members could consist of the United States of America, the European Union and the CANZUK Nations. In effect, three blocks coming together.

A confederation consisting of a Foreign Office, a Defence Ministry and a Trade Policy, the three key areas required to function with a single voice on the world stage.

A policy of qualified majority voting would need to be enforced in order to ensure efficiency and quick decision making.

Each nation/union involved in the confederation would not lose any sovereignty. However, would need to collaborate on the three aforementioned areas.

The only way to ensure China does not run away with the world unchallenged is to unite, and we in the west can unite, under existing structures.
