Cold War 2.0

Things were looking good, we were set to dawn a new golden age of trade with China. Cooperation on Nuclear power stations and the new 5G Network was on the horizon.

Then Covid struck, and we were all amazed at how China handled it, shrouded in secrecy and deception, which inevitably led to tension.

In a sense, we took 2 steps forward and then 5 steps back.

Now, China seem to be violating the 1 - Nation, 2 - Systems Agreement of the Hong Kong hand over of 1997. A new security law has been introduced aimed at dissidents and carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

As a result of this, the UK Government stated, that all Hong Kongers with British National Overseas passports, up to 3 million people, are free to seek refuge in the United Kingdom.

China is furious, and she's demanding, that Britain take a step back and stay out of it.

It's unlikely that the UK will take a step back. The UK is not alone, the UK is probably operating within the 5 Eyes alliance, the secretive partnership between the USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Project Defend, is the initiative taken by the UK Government to end reliance on Chinese imports. It would appear, that this is a much wider effort coordinated by allies.

The new golden age, has suddenly turned into Cold War 2.0, are we trying to slow down the prospect of Chinese domination?

If we are, we better act quickly!
