BARBADOS: Abolish the Monarchy?

Barbados gained it's independence in 1966. Since then, it has been a member of the Commonwealth Realms, a select club from within the Commonwealth of Nations whom retain the British Monarch as Head of State.

Barbados wants to be fully free of it's colonial past and become a republic by November 2021, the 55th anniversary of independence.

The timing, could not be worse. The UK is leaving the EU and has ambitions of becoming a free trade powerhouse. Clearly, Commonwealth Realms would benefit from this new Global Britain with a 21st century outlook!

It's not yet apparent, but the Commonwealth Realms, would make a nice little trade block.

The UK Government should project this message, in an effort to promote the fact, that being a realm, could have its benefits.

Bringing this exclusive club together through trade and investment can only be a win - win. However, it's only a win if you're in, and to be in, it needs to be appealing.
